Why showing up matters for Pacific athletics and campus life

 As the spring semester unfolds, athletics are once again a central part of campus life at the University of the Pacific. With multiple spring sports competing on campus, like baseball, softball, and tennis, home games offer students a chance to connect, unwind, and support their fellow Tigers. Whether you are a dedicated sports fan or simply looking for something to do between classes, here are five reasons to attend a home game this spring.

1. You support fellow students

At the heart of Pacific athletics are student-athletes who balance demanding practice schedules, travel, and academics. Attending a home game is one of the simplest ways to show support for classmates who represent the University in competition. Crowd energy can make a noticeable difference, especially in close matches.

2. You experience campus spirit

Home games help build school pride and bring students together outside the classroom. Cheering alongside friends, classmates, and alumni creates a shared experience that strengthens campus community. Even for students who do not regularly follow sports, the atmosphere of a home event can be memorable.

3. Free or low-cost entertainment

Many home athletic events are free or low-cost for students, making them an accessible option for entertainment throughout the semester. Compared to off-campus events, home games offer a budget-friendly way to spend an afternoon or evening while still enjoying high-level competition.

4. Watch high-level competition up close

Pacific competes at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I level, meaning home games feature the most elite collegiate athletes and fast-paced competition. According to the NCAA, Division I athletics represent the highest level of intercollegiate sports, giving fans the chance to witness top-tier performances without leaving campus.

5. Take a break from routines

The spring semester can be busy and stressful, and home games provide an enjoyable break from daily routines. Attending an event is a chance to step away from assignments, enjoy the moment, and recharge before returning to academic responsibilities.

A little incentive

Students who attend home games get entered into a raffle, you have the opportunity to win;

  • A $5,000 on-campus housing scholarship for the 2026-2027 academic year

  • B-lot parking pass for the 2026-2027 academic year

  • An all-expense-paid trip to the 2027 West Coast conference Basketball tournament, including airfare, hotel accommodations, and game tickets.

As Pacific’s spring sports season continues, home games offer more than just competition — they offer connection, pride, and community. Whether you attend one event, or many, showing up helps support your fellow Tigers and makes campus life more vibrant.

This spring, take a seat, cheer loudly, and be a part of the Pacific home-game experience.
