Pike’s “Geeked Up” Proves We Are All Geeky In Our Own Way
Last Friday, April 18 in the DeRosa University Center (UC) Ballroom, the men of Pi Kappa Alpha, or Pike, hosted their fourth annual “Geeked Up” dance floor event.
The theme of this year’s dance was “May the Fourth Be With You,” so it was vaguely Star Wars-themed, along with the normal geeky costume dress that goes along with the event.
The event featured DJs from local group Plural Music and the debut of DJ Bhaked Stew. Rockstar energy drinks were handed out for free to the first attendees.
Students flooded into the UC wearing their dorkiest getups – sporting pants pulled up far too high aided by unnecessary suspenders, large glasses with no lenses, upside down and backwards visor hats, and a sea of mismatched patterns that would give anyone a headache.
However, clothing choices aside, it was enjoyable to see Pacific students letting loose and having a good time with their peers that evening.
Amanda Cendejas ‘16 remarked, “[It] was so fun! It is a great opportunity for everyone to get together and relax from weeks of midterms, and get their mind off coming weeks of finals and projects. Pike did a great job of making people feel welcome and creating a fun atmosphere for students to dance and let loose in.”
This was Cendejas’ second year attending the event, and she also explained that she was excited for more of Pike’s dance floor events in the future.
Probably the best part about the event was the fact that it was not limited to members of the Greek community, but open to the school as a whole. This brought students together and allowed for everyone to have a fun night, rather than exclusively Greeks.
