Annual Lip Sync Competition Is Here Once Again!
One of the most popular events of the year is here again, and yes, it is Lip Sync! This annual event involves many campus organizations that compete for the viewers’ choice and judges’ pick while coming together to illustrate colorful story lines with theatrical dance moves and bold costumes. The competition draws a huge crowd of students, faculty, members from the community and families, especially because it falls on Parent & Family Weekend. Each group has been working extremely hard by putting in long-term rehearsal efforts. They have choreographed routines from popular movies, children’s books and other relevant material relatable to college students, children and, of course, families.
Lip Sync was founded from a past tradition called Band Frolic, in which mostly the Greeks would put together song-and-dance routines. The routines were often based on cultural context and satire about campus events and contemporary news. Why do many of our campus organizations choose to compete today? Well, it’s not just for bragging rights, for each entered competitor also has the chance to win two $500 cash prizes!
If you are interested in attending this enjoyable and exciting event, it will be held Saturday, Oct. 20 at 2 p.m. on the DeRosa University Center Lawn. So, whether you plan to compete or spectate this event, you don’t want to miss it!
